The gloves we couldn't find

NSW changed its rules for learner and provisional riders in 2026, and gloves are now part of the requirement. Fair enough — gloves are the one piece of gear that earns its place on every single ride.

The problem is what happens next. Go looking for a glove you can be confident about, and the options you can actually verify start climbing well past what a first-time rider wants to spend on their first pair. Below that, most listings don't tell you what standard a glove meets, if any.

So we're building one. Short cuff, so it sits at the wrist and doesn't fight a jacket sleeve. A hard knuckle protector under a stretch panel, so your hand still closes around the bar. A synthetic suede palm with a reinforced patch where you'd actually land. Breathable gussets between the fingers, because this is Australia.

All of the above describes the gloves as designed. Nothing here has been through certification testing yet.

Protection

Across the knuckles. A hard protector sits under a stretch panel rather than on top of a rigid backhand. That combination is deliberate: riders routinely complain that knuckle armour digs in when they grip the bars, and a stretch panel lets the hand close around the bar with the protector still sitting where it should.

Across the palm. The palm is the contact area. When you come off, it hits first and it slides. The design puts a synthetic suede palm with a perforated reinforcement patch at that contact zone.

Through the fingers. Breathable fourchettes between the fingers, so the glove moves with the hand instead of resisting it.

This describes the design. It is not a performance claim, and it is not a test result.

Air-mesh backhand shell with accordion panelling for flex through the wrist and knuckles. Synthetic suede palm with a perforated reinforcement patch. Hard knuckle protector under a stretch panel. Hook-and-loop wrist closure.

Exact material compositions, panel weights and the protector specification are confirmed against the first production sample. We'll publish them then — not before.

Fit and comfort

The gloves are designed around three things riders actually complain about: knuckle armour that presses, palms that bunch, and gloves too hot to wear in an Australian summer.

The stretch panel over the knuckle addresses the first. The accordion backhand addresses flex through the wrist. The air-mesh shell and breathable fourchettes address the third.

How they actually fit is confirmed by fit testing on real hands across the size range. That testing hasn't happened yet — and when it does, we'll publish what it finds, including what we have to change.

Sizing

The design targets a full size range, S through 3XL. Final sizing is confirmed from the graded pattern and the first production sample — not estimated from a drawing.

How to measure your hand

You can get ahead of it now. Measure two things: the circumference of your hand just below the knuckles with your thumb excluded, and the length from the tip of your middle finger to your wrist crease. Measure both hands and use the larger. Send those numbers with your waitlist signup and we'll tell you which size to take the day it launches.

Doing that also helps us — enough measurements across the list tells us whether the range we've targeted is the range riders actually need.

Where certification actually stands

We're going to be precise about this, because the category isn't.

What's true today. These gloves are in manufacturing. They have been designed with European Standard EN 13594:2015, CE Level 1, as the certification target. The certification process is underway.

What is not true today. They are not certified. No sample has completed testing. They do not currently carry any protection level, and we are not claiming one.

What happens next. When testing is complete we will publish the outcome plainly — the standard, the level achieved, and what the marking on the glove says. If it doesn't pass, we'll publish that too, and we won't sell it.

Where it's up to

Care

Care instructions are confirmed with the manufacturer before launch and will be published here and on the label. General guidance for a textile glove: wipe clean with a soft damp cloth, air dry away from direct heat and sunlight, never machine wash a glove with a rigid protector fitted.

They aren't finished. They're in manufacturing. Certification is underway. There is no date, because we won't give you one we can't hold.

They aren't certified. Not yet. If that changes, we'll publish the result and the marking. If it doesn't, we'll publish that and we won't sell them.

Nothing on this page is a photograph. The images are our own design drawings. Production photography comes when the first samples land.

The price isn't set. We're targeting under $50. If the landed cost moves, that target moves, and we'll say so.
