The Motrox Vanguard is a pullover riding hoodie for the commuter who wants real protection without the armoured-jacket look. Under a clean cotton fleece shell, in Charcoal Black or Jet Black with reflective detailing, the whole hoodie is fully lined with genuine 220gsm DuPont™ Kevlar® aramid, with four-needle double-reinforced seams, and removable CE certified armour at the shoulders, elbows and back. The shell is certified to EN 17092-3:2020, Class AA, the European standard for urban and touring motorcycle garments, with AA results for seams, abrasion and tear.

Pick your colour, size and armour spec above. The Vanguard is a stocked, standard-size garment (not made-to-measure) in 20 sizes from XS to 8XL, including tall cuts, and it ships free Australia-wide.

Measure your chest at the fullest point and your belly at the widest point. Use whichever is larger to pick your size. The Vanguard is cut to be worn over a t-shirt with the armour fitted, so the fit already allows for it. Between sizes? The smaller size gives a snug, secure fit; the larger size gives more room to move. Tall (-T) sizes add body and sleeve length for the same chest range. How to measure a hoodie laid flat: A half chest, B half hem, C back length, D sleeve length, E half cuff, F shoulder

Compare these with a hoodie you already own. Lay it flat and zipped on a table and measure with a tape: A across the chest just under the armpits, B across the bottom band, C from the top of the shoulder down to the hem, D from the shoulder point to the end of the cuff, E across the cuff opening, F across the back from one shoulder seam to the other. "½" means the flat width, one side only, which is how hoodies are measured. Tall (-T) sizes are longer in the body and sleeves and, from L-T up, a little wider in the chest: see the tall table.

The Jet Black Reflective is an oversize, down-shoulder cut: at the same size it is wider in the chest and across the shoulders than the Charcoal Black, and the sleeve is shorter because the shoulder seam sits lower on the arm. Measured the same way, A to F.

Which armour should I choose?

Not sure? Level 1 Smooth Ways is the everyday commuter choice: slim and light. Choose any Level 2 option if you want the higher impact rating for longer rides or higher speeds. Every option covers shoulders, elbows and back.

Does the price include the armour?

Yes. The price shown for your selected option includes the full shoulder, elbow and back armour set for that option. Nothing extra to buy.

Is it waterproof?

No. It is a fleece riding hoodie, not a rain jacket; only the hidden zipped pocket inside the kangaroo pocket is waterproof. Wear a shell over it in real rain.

Can I wear it without the armour?

Yes. All protectors are removable, so off the bike it is simply a hoodie. Put the armour back in before you ride; the Class AA rating covers the shell, the armour covers impacts.

How warm is it?

It is a cotton fleece hoodie with a full Kevlar® lining and a mesh inner, so it is warmer than a plain hoodie. Good for cool mornings and mild days; layer a base layer under it in winter and expect it to be warm in the middle of summer.

How do I pick my size?

Measure chest and belly and use the larger number in the chart above. Between sizes, go smaller for a snug fit or larger for room. If your sleeves always run short, choose a Tall (-T) size.

How do I wash it?

Remove all armour first. Machine wash cold, inside out, with like colours. No bleach, no dry cleaning, lay flat to dry in the shade, iron on low if needed.
